Dancing Sprinkles – How Does Sound Work?

Sound waves are created by vibrating objects that collide into adjacent air molecules. These air molecules collide into other nearby air molecules and so on, thereby transmitting the vibration through the air to our ears.

Vibrations cause sounds and sounds also cause vibrations. Your eardrums are tiny membranes inside your ears and when vibrating air molecules hit the membrane they cause it to vibrate throughout the ear. These vibrations are then converted into electrical signals that are sent to your brain.

Did you watch the sprinkles dance in the video above? After adding the sprinkles, the vibrating clear plastic made them bounce much like the membrane in your ear.
