MATH BEYOND THE CLASSROOM WITH REAL WORLD APPLICATIONS- FRACTION PROJECTS
Have you ever had a student ask… “When am I ever going to use this?”
Students need to understand the purpose or application behind what they are learning! It is critical for their learning.
When students understand the integrative concepts, their motivation is immediately boosted. Students become more motivated and engaged in learning the content and they are challenged to apply the critical thinking content.
Adding and Subtracting Fractions
If you are a teacher or homeschooling parent, host a cooking show to share our delicious dessert recipes! Students can “bake” and apply their skills adding and subtracting fractions to some real life cooking situations!
You can provide directions on their use of fractions and food.
Multiplying Fractions
Have a picnic theme! You can use fractions in pieces of cheese, pizza, fruits and vegetables!
Dividing Fractions
You can have the student run their own lemonade stands to practice dividing fractions!
Have the student design lemonade stand signs and bring in yummy treats like brownies to have at their lemonade stand! Set up a few pitchers of lemonade as well.
