‘Electronics Club’ for Children

Schedule: 6pm (UK time) every Saturday, starting 09-Jan-2021

1 hour session every weekend on Electronics during weekends (delivered through Zoom). Each weekly session will have unique content and will build on the knowledge from the previous sessions.

How to Book: Please click on any date to register your child on all the sessions of the weekly program throughout. Once you have registered your child, I will email you the Zoom joining link details. For contact details and also to join the Telegram Group, please see the bottom of this page.

About Program: As an initiative during the pandemic, the Electronics Club is a free-to-attend, weekly program for British children, however kids from other countries are also encouraged to join in, for no cost. For countries where the time zone does not suit the above schedule, we will share recordings and also provide additional Live sessions to their convenience so they can also participate Live.

Some pointers about the program:

Electronics – part of Physics is all about controlling electrical current or electricity. The educational program has been designed in a way that will introduce the kids to the incredible world of electronics in a fun way about learning elements that are included in KS2 British curriculum, and going forward into KS3 and beyond. Electronics can get complex with advanced circuits, but the basics and fundamentals can be cultivated much early into the young minds so they can get a head start over others. Also the knowledge and a continuous learning would set them apart from others in their cohort. The Electronics Club program would focus on the bottom-up approach, and therefore would start with explaining the very basics like electrons, electricity, charge, current, AC/DC, voltage, components, symbols, definitions, formulae, etc.

An Engineer’s Mindset – While the practical applications and experiments on Electronics can be very appealing to the young minds, they must fully understand the underlying theory and implications. The program will be taught with an engineer’s mindset, rather than a technician’s or electrician’s approach. There may be times when the kid is impatient to see the practical outputs rather than the text-book theory, and therefore during the initial sessions, where applicable I will include components, network diagrams, symbols and anything that is visually stimulating and engaging for the children.

Keeping it Real – We will deal with both real electronic components and as well as snap circuits, the program will include display of electronics items and components. Going forward, the program will accomplish practical and interesting projects involving electronics that will keep (hopefully!) the kids glued to the program. There are hundreds of possible projects we can indulge ourselves in. For example – creating a light sensing alarm, a radio, a 3-way traffic light, smart night-light, rail road crossing, audio amplifier, mobile phone charger, wake-up alarm, etc.

Holistic approach – The Electronics Club will involve a combination of screen-sharing and video, however the video will only show the components and circuits. On the Live sessions, I will also try to do Polls and Quizzes so the kids can fully engage. It is my strong suggestion that if your child intends to participate in the Electronics Club, he/she should not miss the initial sessions since the successive sessions will be built up on the initial sessions covering the fundamentals. I will endeavour to share a recording of the Live sessions, so the kids can revise what has been taught.
